The first one breaks their shield, the second one breaks them. The champion only ever gets critically hit. The swashbuckler either blows their attempt to Tumble Through and just throws away an action instead, OR has panache but can't manage to land another hit ever. But besides just being brutal, the encounters have been uniquely frustrating in that the players just can not seem to get their specials to land.
